New Recruits ready to roll
1st December 2013

Skye Fire Brigade's 4 new recruits have been undergoing comprehensive "minimum skills" training which employs them with the basic skills for attending fire calls. They have been learning about Bush Fires, including weather, attack methods, communications, safety on the fire ground, as well as "Low Structure" training which teaches them about house and other small structure fires. This training has taken around 6 months and has consisted of a variety of on and off station, theory and practical assessments. We are pleased to say that all four of our recruits have demonstrated the skills and knowledge to become part of the operational Fire Fighting team at Skye.

Quick Thinking saves House then Car from inferno
23rd September 2013

Skye Fire Brigade's quick thinking last night saved two fires from turning into catastrophes. The first was a BBQ fire under a pergola and on brigade arrival the BBQ was well alight. The fire was quickly brought under control by the crew led by Captain Justin Rowan (right), with no damage to the pergola but unfortunately dinner couldn't be saved.

On arrival back to station the crew didn't have time to undress before the pager went off again, this time to a Car fire. Skye Fire Brigade were on scene within minutes, and kept the fire to the engine bay of the vehicle, meaning that all personal belongings were saved. Two jobs well done by the Skye Fire Brigade volunteers last night!

Social Media

25th July 2013

Skye Fire Brigade is pleased to announce that its social media presence is ever growing, thanks to the addition of it's new Twitter Account. Skye Fire Brigade has worked in the previous months to enahnce its Facebook page, as well as create a whole new website containing information relating to the Brigade and its operation. Communications Officer Tim Vriend said it has been a priority to him to reach out to the generation of today's technology users, and that Facebook and Twitter were excellent mediums to achieve this on. After ironing out a few inital bugs the pages now reflect information regarding incidents that the Brigade respond to as well as activities and photos relating to the Brigade.
