About the Brigade
Skye Fire Brigade is manned by volunteer fire fighters dedicated to providing a fire and emergency service to the community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The brigade can be called anywhere in the state as part of a strike team. The brigade currently has 29 members on its books and we respond to an average of 290 calls per year.
Call Outs:
The Brigade responds to a variety of fire and emergency incidents including Bush fires, Grass and Scrub fires, Structure fires, Motor Vehicle Accidents and HAZMAT incidents. Brigades are advised by pagers that are issued to active firefighting members.
When an emergency gets phoned through to '000', it is answered by a Telstra operator. The Telstra operator then ask 'Police, Fire, Ambulance?' and the operator then connects the caller to the appropriate service. Once there are enough details the volunteers then receive an alphanumeric pager message to respond to the station.
Brigade Structure:
The Brigade consists of 1 Captain, 4 Lieutenants, 1 Chairperson, 1 Communications Officer, 1 Secretary and 1 Treasurer. These elected positions then form a Brigade Management team or BMT.
