Skye Pumper

Skye Pumper is a CFA Type 2 Light Pumper on a 2011 Hino 816 4.0 liter turbocharged Crew Cab Chassis. The truck seats 5 crew members, has a 1,200 litre water capacity and 100 litre B-Class Foam capacity. It is fitted with a Rosenbaur N25 single stage, centrifugal pump driven via a split shaft PTO. It can pump at a rate of 2,500 litres per minute at 1,000 kpa and can deliver a closed pump pressure of 1,700 kpa. The pumper also carries on excess of 600 meters of hose, varying from 64mm Storz for boosting and larger fires, 38mm External Lug couplings for general fire fighting and a 45 meter 25mm live hose reel.

It carries 2 Self Contained Breathing Apparatus sets allowing fire fighters to breathe in hot, toxic or oxygen depleted environments as well as 2 spare cylinders. It also carries basic gear to deal with Hazardous Materials, Salvage and Overhaul, Forced Entry and Lighting gear. It also contains a 5.6 meter hydraulic light mast containing four 70 watt 24 volt globes to compliment its scene lighting.

This appliance replaced an early Ford Trader Type 2 Pumper which the Brigade received from Mount Martha as a temporary solution.

 

The current Skye Pumper came online to the Brigade on 29 May 2011 and was officially handed over to the Brigade by Operations Manager Trevor Owen on the 28th of August 2011.



Skye Pumper is the primary vehicle responded to all reported urban emergencies and motor car accidents.

Skye Tanker



Skye Tanker is a CFA 1983 Isuzu 2.4D 4x4 Tanker, ex Edithvale. The truck seats 6 crew, 3 in the cabin and 3 in the Roll Over Protection Structure (ROPS) and carries 2,000 litres of water. It has an auxiliary 2 stage centrifugal pump capable of about 700 kpa at approximately 800 litres per minute, capable of 'pump and roll' tasks. The Tanker carries around 400-500 meters of hose, in a variety of 64mm,  38mm external lug coupling and a live hose reel.

It also carries 2 Self Contained Breathing Apparatus sets, Class A and Class B Foam, Additional Bush Fire tools such as a Chainsaw, Rake Hoes and Fire Lighters, a 3 stage extension ladder and a variety of hand tools.

It features a crew protection sprinkler system designed to reduce the radiant heat if caught in a burn over situation. This system also incorporates heat curtains to protect exposed surfaces such as windows, and as a drop down curtain for personnel in the ROPS.



Skye Tanker is the primary response vehicle for all Rural, Grass, Scrub and Bush fire emergencies.



This truck was swapped with the current Edithvale Hino Tanker for a period until shortly after the current Type 2 Pumper came on line.





Skye Slip-On



Skye Slip-On is a Brigade Owned 2009 Ford Ranger 3.2 litre Turbo Diesel Dual Cab 4x4 Utility. It seats 4 crew, for Slip On support calls generally only 2. It has an auxilary pump capable of 300 litres per minute at 500 kpa, and carries 500 liters of water.  The Slip On carries limited hose as well as a Live Reel, Rake Hoes, as well as various support tools.

The Slip On is suited to providing a quick initial attack, into areas that a tanker can not access and for mopping up and blacking out operations. The Slip On is also able to be utilized as a Forward Control Point for large local incidents.

The current Slip On replaced a Volkswagen Transporter Dual Cab.
